This policy explains how Memomoon LLC (“Memomoon,” “we”) handles information in the Memphys app and on memphys.app. Memphys is a Mandarin Chinese learning app for phones and tablets, published by Memomoon LLC in San Francisco, California.

The short version

Memphys keeps your learning progress, photos and voice recordings on your device. The app does not ask you to create an account. We do not sell personal information, and we do not use it for advertising. This website does not use advertising or tracking cookies; it records a limited amount of visit and performance data so we can operate it.

Information in Memphys

Information that stays on your device

Memphys stores the following in the app’s private storage on your phone or tablet:

• Learning progress, including lessons you open, speaking and writing practice, review schedules, points, levels, and the care and growth of your Memphys
• Which Memphys lives in your room, and settings you choose, such as sound and reduced motion
• The days you practice
• Photos you take with the camera or choose from your photo library, saved so they can appear with that word in lessons and reviews

Object recognition of those photos runs on your device, using a model included in the app. Handwriting you draw is checked on your device. Photos and handwriting stay on the device.

Uninstalling Memphys, or clearing the app’s storage, deletes the progress and photos the app has stored. Memphys has no account and no cloud backup, so that information cannot be restored after it is deleted. On Android, backup of the app’s data is turned off.

Microphone and pronunciation

Memphys uses the microphone when you tap Record to practice saying a word. That recording is checked on your device by a speech model included in the app, and it stays on your device.

Some builds can turn on optional pronunciation scoring. When that feature is on, the app sends the short recording and the identifier of the word you are practicing to a speech service operated for Memomoon. That service sends the audio to Microsoft Azure Speech, a speech-processing provider, to score the pronunciation and return a transcript, scores and feedback for that attempt. The service deletes its temporary copy of the recording after it returns the result. These recordings are used only to score your practice. The Settings screen in the app says when pronunciation scoring is connected.

Reminders

If you turn on care reminders, Memphys schedules them as notifications on your device. No notification server or push token is used, and you can turn reminders off at any time in Settings.

Information the app does not collect

Memphys does not collect your name, email address, phone number, contacts, precise location or advertising identifier. It does not include third-party advertising or analytics software. It reads a photo only when you take one or choose one in the photo picker.

Permissions

• Camera, to photograph an object and learn its Mandarin name
• Photos, to choose an existing photo for the same purpose
• Microphone, to record your pronunciation when you tap Record
• Notifications, only if you turn on care reminders

Your device asks before the app uses each permission. You can decline, and you can turn a permission off later in your device settings. Lessons that do not need a camera or microphone continue to work.

Information on this website

memphys.app is a public informational site. It does not offer accounts, and it does not ask you to submit personal information.

When you visit, our host, Vercel, processes connection data such as your IP address, browser type and the page you requested, in order to deliver the page and keep the site secure. Vercel Web Analytics records visit information, including the page, the referring page, a coarse location such as country, and browser and device type, without using cookies. Vercel Speed Insights records performance measurements such as how quickly a page loads. We use these tools to understand whether the site works. We do not use them to advertise to you, and we do not sell this information.

How we use information

On-device information runs your lessons, reviews, Memphys and settings. A pronunciation recording, when scoring is enabled, is used to tell you how that attempt went. Website visit and performance data is used to operate, secure and improve memphys.app.

Who we share information with

We do not sell personal information. We do not share it with data brokers or for cross-context behavioral advertising.

• Microsoft. If pronunciation scoring is enabled, Microsoft Azure Speech processes the recording as a service provider and returns a score and transcript for that attempt.
• Vercel. Vercel hosts this website and provides the analytics and performance tools described above.
• Legal requests. We may disclose information when the law requires it, or to protect the rights and safety of Memomoon, our users or other people.

Learning progress, photos and ordinary practice recordings remain on your device, so those items are not shared with Memomoon or with the providers above.

Children

Memphys is made for teens and adults. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us, email support@memomoon.com and we will delete it.

Security

Photos, progress and on-device recordings stay in the app’s private storage. Connections to this website, and any connection to the speech service, use HTTPS.

Your choices

• Decline or revoke camera, photo, microphone and notification permissions in your device settings.
• Turn care reminders off in the app’s Settings.
• Delete what the app stores by uninstalling Memphys or clearing its storage.

Memphys has no account, so there is no profile for us to export. If you live in California or another place that gives you privacy rights, you can contact us to ask about them, and we will respond as the law requires.

Changes

We will post changes on this page and update the date at the top. If a change expands what Memphys sends off your device, we will describe that practice here before it applies.
